Story / Sophia

Who is Sophia?

A smuggler, played by Anna Demetriou, who was introduced in A Plague Tale: Requiem and then given a game of her own. Asobo picked her early in development for one specific reason: she is everything Amicia is not.

Sophia stands surrounded by tall glowing blue crystalline growths that trail light across the ground
The blue crystal motif recurs throughout, and one chapter achievement is simply called Resonance.
Sophia mid-swing with a sword against four armed enemies in a grove of dead trees, one of them carrying a round shield
Four at once, one of them shielded. This is the fight the parry achievements are describing.

Who plays her

Sophia is voiced by Anna Demetriou. She is a plunderer who went to the island after something, rather than someone swept into it — which is what separates this opening from the two games before it. The score changed for this one too.

Sophia against Amicia

The contrast is deliberate and it is the reason the whole game plays differently. Read it as a design document rather than a character sheet.

AmiciaSophia
Where the violence came fromMet it young and had to work out alone how to process it.Was born into it. Learned to fight as a child, inside a gang.
Starting capabilityA sheltered noble learning survival as she goes.Already physically capable when the game opens.
What that changesStealth and improvisation, because confrontation is not an option.Confrontation is the option. The combat model changed to match.

A complex, impulsive character, admirable for her strength as she has known horror.

The people around her

SophiaAnna Demetriou
A plunderer chasing the secrets of her own past. The game is hers.
Theseus
The legendary Greek hero, and the other half of the story — Sophia experiences “resonations” with him across the two timelines.
Leni
A fellow smuggler and Sophia's close friend, with her through the Trials.
Alec
Sophia's father. He led the gang she grew up in, and that upbringing is the whole point of her character.
Sets up Sophia, Crete and the two timelines without spoiling where it goes.
